Big Nose George *
The Bizarre Demise of Big Nose George
Outlaw Big Nose George Parrott made a name for himself robbing trains and stagecoaches, but his biggest crime was bragging while drunk. After murdering two lawmen, he foolishly boasted about it in a saloon—leading to his immediate arrest.
Sentenced to hang, George tried to escape by knocking out his jailer with his own shackles, but his plan flopped. A lynch mob took over, and when they hanged him, the first rope snapped under his weight. Not ones to give up, they simply got another rope and finished the job.
But George’s misfortunes didn’t end there. A local doctor, Dr. John Osborne, decided to use his body for science—which apparently meant skinning him and making shoes out of his hide. His skull was turned into an ashtray, and the rest of his remains were buried in a whiskey barrel.
Today, those human leather shoes are still on display in Wyoming, proving that if you're going to be an outlaw, maybe don’t have such a big mouth.
